1. Privacy at a Glance
Protecting your personal data is a top priority. This personal, non-commercial portfolio operates on a strict data-minimization principle: we do not run our own analytics or advertising trackers. External content is subject to the provider information below.
Below is an overview of how your data is handled when you visit this website. The formal statutory details regarding the Data Controller pursuant to Art. 4 No. 7 GDPR can be found at the bottom of this page (Section 8) as well as in our Legal Notice (Impressum).
For any electronic inquiries regarding your privacy or data rights, you can reach out directly to: info@3d-gs.de.
2. Web Hosting & Server Log Files
This website is hosted on secure servers located in Germany provided by:
STRATO AG
Pascalstraße 10
10587 Berlin, Germany
When you access this website, Strato and our web server automatically collect and store technical information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits:
- Browser type and browser version
- Operating system used
- Referrer URL (the previously visited page)
- Host name of the accessing computer / IP address (anonymized/shortened)
- Time of the server request and HTTP status code
This data is processed in Germany on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the secure, stable, and error-free operation of our web service). The data is not merged with other data sources.
3. Cookies & Local Browser Storage
External content: Our own pages do not use advertising or analytics cookies. After you activate external content, the respective provider may use cookies as described below.
Technically Necessary Storage: We only store strictly necessary technical preferences locally in your browser's localStorage and sessionStorage:
theme: Remembers your selected display mode (dark or light mode) across visits.lang_switch_scrollY: Temporarily retains your vertical scroll position when you toggle the website language, ensuring you remain at the same position.
4. Contact Form & Communications
If you submit an inquiry via our contact form or send us an email, the information you provide (name, email address, subject, and message content) is stored and processed for the purpose of answering your inquiry and any follow-up communication.
Legal Basis: The processing of this data is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (processing necessary for the performance of pre-contractual measures or direct contact inquiries) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in effective and reliable correspondence).
Technical Forwarding via Web3Forms: We use the technical email API service Web3Forms (provided by Web3Forms, USA) to securely forward form submissions to our email inbox. Data transmitted to Web3Forms is processed under standard data protection clauses (SCC) and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Storage Period: We retain your correspondence only as long as necessary to process your request, after which it is deleted unless statutory retention requirements apply.
5. Spam Protection (hCaptcha)
We use hCaptcha on our contact form to prevent abusive automated bot submissions. The provider is:
Intuition Machines, Inc.
350 Alabama St, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA
hCaptcha evaluates various pieces of technical information (e.g., IP address, time spent on the page, mouse movements, browser characteristics) to determine whether data input is made by a human or an automated script.
Legal Basis: The use of hCaptcha is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in protecting our website from automated spam, security abuse, and denial-of-service attempts). For more details, see hCaptcha's Privacy Policy.
6. Embedded 3D Viewers & External Media (2-Click Solution)
XGRIDS 3D Viewer: We showcase interactive 3D Gaussian Splatting captures using a two-click facade solution. When you view a project page, no connection to XGRIDS servers is established initially, and no personal data is transmitted.
Only when you actively click the "Load 3D Viewer" button, you give consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, and an iframe connecting to the external 3D viewer (XGRIDS, Shenzhen / AWS Cloud) is loaded, which transmits your IP address to their servers.
Panopto Video Embeds: Academic presentations and research videos are embedded via the Panopto platform of Hochschule Düsseldorf (HSD). Videos are also embedded behind a two-click facade and only establish a connection when you click the play button.
7. Your Rights as a Data Subject & SSL/TLS Encryption
Under the GDPR, you have the right to request access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), objection to processing (Art. 21), and withdrawal of consent (Art. 7(3)) regarding your personal data at any time.
SSL/TLS Encryption: This site uses SSL/TLS encryption for all data transfers. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the https:// prefix and lock icon in your address bar.
Supervisory Authority: You have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR):
